My Non Toxic Makeup Routine

\
By: Emily Oberg

I’ve never been a huge makeup wearer and I’ve never worn foundation or concealer more than a few times in my life. I hate the feeling and idea of having something covering my skin and I also don’t know how to apply makeup very well. I’m extremely low maintenance and like to use as few products as possible whenever I can. My favorite makeup look is a natural, glowy, sun kissed face with long lashes, messy brows and a shiny lip gloss or balm.

Face:

I love Tata Harper’s cream blush in Very Popular. It’s the perfect shade of pink for my skin and gives me a slightly “sunburnt” look which I LOVE (I always feel prettiest when I have a sunburn on my face.) It’s very pigmented though so you only need a tiny bit of it. I’ll do 2-3 light dabs of it on my cheekbones and nose- the places where you’d naturally get a sunburn.

I’ll then put a bit of Weleda Skin Food on top of it which acts like a highlighter and makes your face really pretty and dewy.

I don’t normally wear foundation or tinted moisturizer unless I have a special event or photoshoot. If I do wear it, I like Omorovicza’s Complexion Perfector which uses Vitamin C and Zinc.

Lips:

I’m a big fan of Tata Harper’s tinted anti-aging lip treatment in “Be Adored”. It’s the perfect shade and isn’t too pigmented so it looks super natural. It also smells good and is hydrating for your lips.

I also like the RMS Lip2cheek product if I want something with more pigment.

Eyes:

Here’s where I cheat. I’ve tried multiple different non-toxic mascaras but nothing has come close to my all time favorite, Maybelline’s Great Lash. It makes my lashes long and thick without being clumpy or spidery. I’ll use my Shu Uemera eyelash curler and then 2 coats of this. I’ll then use a little bit of black liner on the outer corner of my bottom lash line. I like Jillian Dempsey’s waterproof kohl liner in jet black. Recently, I tried Thirve’s liquid lash extensions mascara and I got great results. The formula creates a “tube” around each lash so taking it off is super easy and it doesn’t smudge.

Brows:

Last but not least. Brows are the most important part of your face I think, and I love a thick, strong brow. I used to color in my brows but looking back at old photos I realize they were way too dark and I looked crazy. Now I just use clear brow gel and nothing else. I swear by Benefit’s 24-hour brow gel, though it’s not non-toxic, it has a serious hold and my brows always look thicker than they are whenever I use it.

I try to use chemical free products whenever I can but sometimes the natural version just doesn’t have the same effect, and when it’s things like mascara and brow gel I’m less concerned than if it’s say lipstick or lip gloss which you apply multiple times a day and ingest. If you have a product you love that’s not non-toxic, don’t stress too much about it. At the end of the day you have to live your life and can’t be worried about every little thing all the time.

By: @drmelissa.co Burnout is a concern I see often in clinical practice. Although it is not a diagnosable disease, it is a syndrome, meaning it is defined by a set of symptoms, but does not have a consistent progression or clear treatment plan. In other words, burnout is a very real issue, but may look different from person to person and require...
