My Favorite Wellness Podcasts

By: Emily Oberg

Podcasts are a great way to obtain knowledge when you're doing something mundane like driving, cleaning, even working out. Here are some of my favorite wellness/self improvement related podcasts that always inspire me and put me in a better mood.

The Goop Podcast- I find that people either love or hate Gwyneth Paltrow (or GP, as they annoyingly refer to her as on every episode). I don’t particularly feel one way or another, and I’m not a Goop reader. I do however love their podcast which covers everything from emotional to intellectual to physical well being. They have super interesting interviews with people like Dr. Nigma Talib- the queen of good skin. They also have episodes on topics like the health of our soil and how it’s affecting our microbiome, how to detach yourself from material possessions and how to detox yourself without depriving yourself.

Ben Greenfield Fitness- Ben Greenfield is a former triathlete with a masters degree in physiology and biomechanics. He’s an extreme bio hacker who experiments with everything from coffee enemas to stem cell injections. Some people think he’s a bit much but I find him to be incredibly knowledgeable and entertaining. What I like about Ben is that he actually tries everything he talks about and gets into the super fine details about the research behind these things and exactly how they’re beneficial to your health. His guests often consist of some of the most unconventional, forward thinking doctors out there who are discovering things that you’d think were out of a science fiction novel. I take his advice with a grain of salt because some of it is too extreme, but it’s interesting to learn about all the health trends of the future nonetheless.

The Genius Life by Max Lugavere- Max is a good friend of mine but before we became friends, I was a fan of his after discovering his podcast. Max takes a different approach to wellness and isn’t as extreme or opinionated as some of the others out there. He offers up facts and lets you draw your own conclusions. His discussions focus around the importance of what we’re putting into our bodies and how to live long, cancer and disease free lives.

How I Built This with Guy Raz - This isn’t exactly a health-related podcast but I thought I’d share it anyway because it’s one of my favorites. How I Built This focuses on entrepreneurs across all industries who share their stories of how they built multi-million dollar companies from the ground up. From Wholefoods to Drybar, Bumble to Air BnB, each story leaves you feeling inspired and driven.

Oprah’s Super Soul Conversations- Who doesn’t love Oprah? I especially like her podcast series with Eckhart Tolle on his book “A New Earth” which is about living in the present and how most of us create our own suffering. In the series, they delve into the meaning behind the book and go over it chapter by chapter.

Happier with Gretchen Rubin- Gretchen is the author of the book titled The Happiness Project which teaches habits for a happier life. Each episode features feel-good stories, lessons and advice on maintaining a happy mindset.

Ten Percent Happier with Dan Harris- In this series, Dan Harris interviews people from all industries and backgrounds about conquering anxiety, fear and how they deal with increasing their overall happiness for a better quality of life.
